By upgrading all of its surface mount electronics to hybrids, DataCan will significantly improve the reliability of its ultra high temperature (200ºC) products. It is believed that the reliability of a hybrid circuit is 100 times greater than its surface mount cousin.Current surface mounted electronics fail at 165°C due to the plastic surrounding the component die out gassing and corroding metallic interconnects.
To compete in the down-hole tool market DataCan must continue to push the high temperature envelope. Hybrid circuit manufacturing techniques will allow us to produce reliable circuits capable of operating up to 225°C. The smaller parts within a hybrid circuit reduce the overall mass of the electronics. This reduction in mass increases the assembly’s shock and vibration resistance. The smaller parts will also allow DataCan reduce the overall size of its electronics by up to 80%.
